‘The boy who harnessed the wind’ is a book writing by himself Willam Kamkwanba and Bryan Mealer. This book is illustrated by Elizabeth Zunon. Willam has always been interested in how mechanical things work, the town of Malawi is where he grew up. There was no electricity in Malawi so when the sun went down everyone went to sleep as well. He started reading old science books and taught himself English so he could understand them. He became determined to build a windmill, the people in the village thought he was crazy but he knew he would succeed. Slowly he built the windmill out of junkyard scraps. He made the windmill and succeeded. I can make some connections with this book. The first connection is text to self because I have felt creative before and wanted to make something to help people. The second connection I made was text to world. Because I am sure that there are a lot of kids who live in pour countries and want to do something to help their people too.
After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again
‘After The Fall’ is a book written and illustrated by Dan Santat. This is a book about the famous Humpty Dumpty and his life after he fell. The wall used to be Humpty’s favorite spot to hang out but after he fell he was afraid of heights. After that, he was scared to get cereal at the top of the shelf and even going on his bed what was a bunk bed. After that, he decided to get back up again and go back up the wall he wasn’t scared anymore and he was happy. I connect to text to self when I was little I was afraid to go to the top of the spiderweb at school, all my friends could do it and weren’t scared and one day I was tired of being scared. I wanted to have fun with my friends so I closed my eyes and went up to it and I was not scared anymore. This is a good book for kids to show them not to be afraid.
The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art
This book is written by Barb Rosenstock and illustrated by Mary Grandpr’e. Vasya Kandinsky was a proper boy from what looks like a very proper family. He was always not that happy as a child and always bored. Until one day his Aunt gave him a paint set and the paint made a sound he started to paint a lot and his parents thought he was crazy. His family sent him to painting classes where he was expected to draw houses and flowers. Burt Vasya didnt like drawing houses, flowers and people he wanted to draw the sounds that he drew. Time past and people started to get his abstract art and liked it. Abstract art is one of the most famous forms of art now. One connection that I made to this book is text to self, when I was younger I loved to paint but I did painting classes and didnt t like it. I liked painting my own ideas and they were normally abstract. Another connection I made was text to the world because I think that lots of kids love painting and drawing as well, and don’t like being told what to draw. One last connection that I made was text to text because the book ‘One’ that we have read is all about colors and the circles and the art in it. I think this is a great book for all kids and that it’s really good for kids to know that this is historical fiction.
Wangari’s Trees Of Peace: Ture Story From Africa
‘Wangari’s trees of peace’ is a book written and illustrated by Jeanette Winter. This book is about a young girl named Wangari that lived in Kenya and its surrounded by trees. But when she gets older, she sees that there are people cutting down the trees. Wangari is worried that there soon won’t be any trees left in Kenya. She decides to plant nine seedlings and they grow and now there are trees I Kenya for all the hard work and bravery that Wangari had. One connection that I made from this book was ‘text to the world’ because in the world there are a lot of girls facing men to stand up for rights and not being recognized for what they can accomplish. Another connection that I made was ‘text to the book’ because there are some books such as I am Malala and its about a girl who is facing the struggles of men and how to stand up for girls. Another ‘text to book’ that I had was the book Milk and honey its about poems and feminism. All in all this is a great book for all girls and boys to read and is very powerful about a true life story
The Fantastic Undersea Life Of Jacques
‘The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau’ is a book created by Dan Yaccarina. Jacques loved the sea. Jacques and his team invented diving equitment, under water camaras, Diving sacers and more. I had a lot of connections towards this book such as the sea, ever since I could swim I loved the sea ijt was so cool and like a whole other world beneath the surface of the land. I also connected to this book becuase I want to help the ocean survive and create new ideas to help those problems. This book is for 6 to 13 year old students its a great story to learn about.
Enemy Pie Connetions
There are many connections between the book and my personal life. Enemy Pie is written by Derek Munson. This book is about a boy whos enemy moves into his neighborhood. The boy’s dad tells him to go spend the day with his enemy. Then his father told him that he had a recipe for a pie for enemies. The Father knew if he spent time with his enemy they would become friends and they did. When the pie was done the boy was trying not to let his new friend eat the pie that was for enemies. In the end, the Father knew that they would become friends and it was a normal pie. One of the most common connections to this book is text to self. I can relate to text to self because I have become friends with a couple of enemies myself. Another fun connection I had was to the part where the boys are riding their bikes. This reminds me of the time my friend Claire and I were riding our bikes together. A connection to the world is that everyone in their life might have an enemy and sometimes that enemy can become a friend if you give them a chance. Overall, Enemy pie is a great book and is a very good lesson for kids and I can relate to this book a lot.
Kindness #5
Yesterday I was at the mall and I bought something that was ten dollars. I only had a 20 dollar bill the lady went to pull out the money she owed me and I told her to keep the change. She was so thankful and it made me feel good that she got an extra tip.
Kindness #4
Yesterday my mom told me that she was going away to see my grandparents. She said she was staying till Wednesday morning since my Dad is always busy she asked me to fully take care of my dog while she was away. I already wash and walk my dog but my mom did the rest. I said yes because it was a nice thing to do and it teaches me to be more responsible for my pets. My mom always does so much for us so I decided that I would help her for a change.
Kindness #3
Today my mom was not feeling good and had a cold and couldn’t take our dog out for a walk. I felt bad for her so I walkied the dog for her. I took my dog for a long walk and it felt nice to do something for, my mom because she always does stuff for me. When I got home she felt so happy and thankful that she didnt have to go out in the cold when she was sick.
Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress
‘Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress’ is a book about a boy named Morris with a very wonderful imagination. He loved to draw and he loved lions. He wore this tangerine dress that made him think of lions and he loved the way it made him feel. But the other kids at school made fun of him because boys aren’t supposed to wear dresses. He would be so bullied he had to pretend he was sick and go home. But one night he dreamed of elephants and lions, the next day when he woke up he painted a beautiful picture. Morris brought the picture to school and he was happy he was wearing the tangerine dress. When he brought the dress to school he made his own ship. Soon everyone wanted to go in his ship. The other kids realized that an astronaut can wear anything even a tangerine dress. This is a very powerful book and I recommend it to young boys and girls. It shows people that you can be anything you want and to stand up for bullying.
